Pallisa SS Faces Shortage of Computers, Teachers Under New Curriculum

Pallisa Senior Secondary School is facing a shortage of computers and teachers, raising concerns about its ability to effectively implement the new curriculum and conduct examinations smoothly.

Francis Ezatti, the school’s headteacher, said the institution needs at least 100 computers to enable learners to comfortably undertake computer-based examinations, but currently has only about 50 functional machines.

Ezatti explained that the new curriculum integrates Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into learning, increasing demand for computers as every class requires access to the facilities.

He said the school previously had about 25 working computers before increasing the number, but the current stock remains insufficient.

The headteacher also expressed concern over inadequate staffing, revealing that the school has 2,910 students but only 42 teachers on the government payroll.

He said the school employs another 25 teachers under the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), whose salaries are paid by the institution, alongside 21 non-teaching staff who are also not on the government payroll.
